Fuzzy Logic for Security and Forensics

Computational intelligence (CI) has taken the centre of cybersecurity and digital forensics. Being an important part of CI, fuzzy logic has been successfully applied in a number of real-world applications, resulting from its ability to provide: human-comprehensible solutions to cybersecurity and forensics problems in uncertain environments; and the fuzziness of the security and forensics problems themselves. Of all CI techniques, fuzzy logic is expected to have a more significant impact in this field than any other.

The aim of this special session is to provide a forum to: (1) disseminate and discuss contemporary and significant research efforts in the field of fuzzy logic, security, and forensics; (2) promote both theoretical development and practical applications of fuzzy logic in the field of security and forensics; and (3) foster the integration of communities from academic, industry, and other organisations working in the field of fuzzy logic, security, and forensics.

Longzhi Yang

Associate Professor, Northumbria University, UK

Longzhi Yang is the Director or Teaching and Learning and was the programme leader of Computer Networks & Cyber Security and Computer and Digital Forensics 2015-2018 in the Department of Computer and Information Sciences at Northumbria University, UK, which is the 19th EPSRC awarded Academic Centre of Excellence for Cybersecurity. He has over 100 peer-reviewed publications, with some appeared in the best journals and conferences in the research field such as IEEE Transaction on Fuzzy Systems, IEEE Transaction on Cybernetics, Fuzzy Sets and Systems, IEEE International Conference on Fuzzy Systems, and the World Congress on International Fuzzy Systems Association. Longzhi was the recipient of the best paper award in the 2010 IEEE International Conference on Fuzzy Systems. He is the founding chair or IEEE SIG of Big Data for Cyber Security and Privacy.

Nitin Naik

Associate Professor, Ministry of Defence, UK

Nitin Naik is an Associate Professor and Head of Cyber Security & Big Data at the Defence School of Communications and Information Systems at the Ministry of Defence, UK. He received his PhD degree in Computer Science (Fuzzy Logic and Security) from Aberystwyth University, UK. He also holds several academic qualifications: MTech, MSc, MBA, MSW, PGCTHE, BSc, and Polytechnic (Electrical Engineering). He has published papers in the area of Fuzzy Logic, Security and Forensics, Big Data, Cloud Computing and Internet of Things.

Paul Jenkins

Visiting Research Fellow, University of Portsmout

Paul Jenkins is a Visiting Research Fellow at the University of Portsmouth and was the former Head of Information Technology Wing at the Defence School of Communications and Information Systems, Ministry of Defence, UK. He received his PhD in 1988, in Engineering (Applied Mathematics and Computing) from Cardiff University, UK. He worked for Glamorgan University as a Senior Lecturer in Computing, followed by a period as Quality Assessment Manager for the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales. He joined the Ministry of Defence, UK in 2008 as Head of Information Systems (DCCIS), Deputy Head of ICT Faculty (DSCIS) and finally Head of IT Wing. In addition, he is the treasurer for the British Computer Society (Dorset Branch). His research interests include Fuzzy Logic, Security and Forensics, Big Data, Cloud Computing and Internet of Things.

Natthakan Iam-On

Assistant Professor, Mae Fah Luang University, Thailand

Natthakan Iam-On is an Assistant Professor at the School of Information Technology, Mae Fah Luang University. She received Ph.D.in Computer Science from Aberystwyth University in 2010, funded by Royal Thai Government. Her Ph.D. work won the Thesis Prize of 2012 by Thai National Research Council. She has been involved in a number of research projected funded by Ministry of Science and Technology, Defence Technology Institute, Newton (STFC-NARIT) and Newton (RAE-TRF). She serves as an editor for International Journal of Data Analysis Techniques and Strategies and as a committee and reviewer of several venues, IEEE TKDE, Machine Learning, for instance.
